SURE Conference: from Research to Implementation Sustainable Urban Development in Southeast and East Asia
December 16th and 17th 2025 - Bangkok, Thailand
The SURE funding priority conference, titled from Research to Implementation, unites German and Southeast Asian partners, facilitating the dialogue between the SURE collaborative projects. The event represents a milestone in our joint journey, dedicated to the next phase of the SURE funding priority, the Implementation Phase.
The conference will be centred around products, methods and strategies of sustainable urban and peri-urban development, providing opportunities to showcase the projects, introduce new partners, share research goals, and receive valuable feedback from peers. During the conference days we will exchange on implementation tools, established practices, and community-structure challenges, while forming collaboration alliances and outlining follow-up actions to ensure sustained engagement and progress.

Project Presentations include the SURE projects PolyUrbanWaters, Myrisk, Build4People, CHARMS, IMECOGIP, GreenCityLabHue, FloodAdaptVN and SURE F&SR.
The SURE Atlas, a web-based tool for the interactive exploration of the multifaceted landscape of the SURE projects will be launched at the conference and all the projects will be showcasing their products, tools, and solutions during a collaborative market square session.
The aim of the conference is to foster discussions and exchange on the challenges of the implementation phase, focusing on implementation strategies, representation and translation. This will be facilitated through sessions dedicated to interdisciplinarity and disciplinary boundaries, on how to combine methods and tools, to exchange on success learnings across the projects, to young academics in the SURE network and to publication strategies. A crucial element of the conference is dedicated time for Networking and interpersonal exchange.
Accompanying the conference, we are inviting all conference participants to join side event of the book launch of the recently published book Navigating Urban Development - Learnings from East and Southeast Asia where all the SURE projects contributed to.
