On October 1, 2022, the sixth Synergy Workshop, and the first in-person workshop involving two SURE Projects was held in Huế, Vietnam. Organized and hosted by Binh Minh Hoang of the Mientrung Institute for Scientific Research, partner of GreenCityLabHuế (GCLH), the workshop brought together the GCLH team, represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Binh Minh Hoang, Long Nguyen, Dac Hoang, and Sarah Kovac, alongside Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Khanh Linh from FloodAdaptVN (FAVN), Head of the International School at Huế University.
As both GCLH and FAVN are based in Huế, the workshop aimed to identify synergies beyond their shared research area. Following an introduction to the SURE Funding Priority and the SURExChange platform, the two teams presented their work and discussed potential synergies in an interactive session, concluding that regular exchange between the projects should continue going forward.
Concrete synergies were identified in:
- Communication: using SURExChange for faster internal exchange, and joint social media or local Huế newspapers for wider external reach.
- Events: mutual participation where topics and stakeholders overlap.
- Exhibition: the mobile GCLH exhibition could also host FAVN-related content in shared spaces.
- Content: Nature-based Solutions (NbS) emerged as the clearest thematic link, given their role in flood mitigation and adaptation, alongside related issues like air quality, heat, and green-blue urban space.
The workshop closed with a tour of the GreenCityLabHuế exhibition, a physical-digital platform launched in 2022 covering Huế’s climate context, its history as a green city, and NbS and green-blue infrastructure. The GCLH team plans to sharpen the exhibition’s programming and expand it to new locations to reach a wider audience.
